Let’s start with a definition. Intention: a thing intended, an aim or a plan; the action or fact of intending. Basically, what we are talking about here is transforming thoughts that are percolating back there in your mind into words. Taking that dream you have and putting it out in the world by using words. You may have something you want to accomplish for yourself, your house/yard, your community, your society, maybe even the world. Do you have something knocking around in your mind that you haven’t verbalized yet?
I’m talking about getting your thoughts or dreams out of your head and acting on them. It’s not “real” if we don’t get it out of there. No one else knows it’s there. How can anyone help you? How can you act upon it if you never make it a concrete thing by putting it down on paper or telling someone? You can’t.
So, do you have something you’ve been wanting to accomplish, but you’ve not articulated it yet? I urge you to set an intention. Start by getting it out of your head and onto paper. If you aren’t a paper person, make it a Word document or an Evernote. Whatever medium you select, just make sure it gets saved. Now here’s an important step: once you’ve got it written down and out of your head, share it with someone.
Who do you share it with? Well, that’s entirely up to you. My suggestion is to share it with someone who does and/or will support you and hold you accountable to taking action. This could be your significant other, members of your family, friends, co-workers, your wellness coach, etc. These people can help to form your support network during your journey.
Then, demonstrate your commitment to your intention. The more I think about it, this step is when we start “acting as if”. We’re acting with the intention as if everything is going to work out as it should. We allow opportunities to come our way. We’re more open to the choices that are presented to us. We make choices with our intent in mind. We don’t know the timing or even the details on how these things are going to unfold, but if we continue to act as if it’s going to happen. We continue to follow our intentions and the path it leads us.
