I guess I’m really on a berry kick right now. Every time I head to the grocery store they are there, on sale and looking gorgeous. I’m a real sucker for raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Since it’s summer, it is also my season for smoothies every morning. They are fast, tasty and easy to make metabolically efficient. Here’s my latest and greatest creation. I made it yesterday out of necessity to use up some blueberries that were heading into their last bit of life. It was so good, I made it again today with some frozen blueberries. Yum!!
- 1 cup almond milk
- About 2/3 of 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Growing Naturals Organic Brown Rice Protein Powder)
- ½ cup raspberries (I used fresh)
- ½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen works)
- ½ cup of plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- Ice (depending on whether you used any frozen berries and how thick you like your shake to be)
Add everything to your blender or your handy, dandy Magic Bullet. Blend to smooth. Drink it up!
With my protein powder, this ends up being around 350 calories with 37 grams protein, 12 grams fat, 29 grams of carbohydrate with 9 grams of fiber. A nice balance of protein, fat and fiber.
